SETUP & SUPPORT
Let’s get your energy connected.
From your first installation to the screen on your desk. Find the right steps for your SeeEnergy hardware and account.
Your first connection
Confirm your equipment.
Check your exact inverter and connection against our compatibility guide. Ask us to confirm the right adaptor before ordering. Choose Internal for an inverter inside a building, or External for an inverter mounted outside a building.
Choose your package.
Visit the shop, then sign in or create an account during checkout. Included access starts after payment is verified. Hardware-only orders do not include platform access.
Add a site and connect.
In your dashboard, choose Sites → Add site and save the returned Site key. Configure the approved dongle, then check for fresh readings. The detailed steps are below.
Accounts & access
Use your own email address to register or log in. Your Account page shows your orders and platform access. Your account shows the confirmed payment and access status. If payment is still processing, wait for that result before trying again.
Standard covers one inverter at one site. Pro covers up to three inverters in total across three sites, with extended history, costs and approved-display data access. Enterprise is arranged with SeeEnergy for unlimited sites and inverters. Screens are separate hardware purchases.
If an order or access looks wrong
Refresh Account and check the order status. If a payment is still pending, do not place another order to fix it. Contact us with the order reference. Older orders may show an explicit activation step; follow the action shown in your account.
Security and shared access
Use the password-reset link on the login screen if needed. If you enabled an authenticator, complete its verification step when logging in. In the Android app, optional biometric app lock unlocks an existing signed-in session; a new or expired session still requires website login.
Owners can manage invited viewers from Account → People. Shared viewers use their own identity and only see the sites granted to them. Inverter settings, devices and tariff changes remain with the owner.
Create your installation
- Log in and open Sites.
- Choose Add site, give the installation a name, and create it within your account’s site allowance.
- Copy the returned Site key and keep it somewhere private. You will enter it into the approved USB adaptor’s setup form.
- Select that site when viewing your dashboard. Each site represents one inverter; an empty site still reserves an inverter slot.
A Site key is a device credential. Do not send it in an email or screenshot. It is different from the short code used to pair a display.
If you lose a Site key, the owner can rotate it in Sites and enter the new key on the adaptor. The old key stops working, so plan the update while you can access the adaptor’s setup controls.
Connect an approved USB adaptor
These steps apply to the SeeEnergy USB Adaptor. Use the instructions supplied with any other approved model. A stock GivEnergy dongle does not become compatible just by entering these settings.
Internal and External describe where your inverter is installed: inside or outside a building. Follow the approved adaptor fitting instructions for its connection and mounting, using a qualified installer where required. This guide covers account and Wi-Fi setup.
- Power the approved adaptor as instructed. Hold its button for 3 seconds to open protected setup.
- Find the SeeEnergy- network in your phone or computer’s Wi-Fi list. Join it using the 16-character setup password shown on the adaptor’s small display.
- Open
http://192.168.4.1/configin a browser. If asked to sign in, use username admin and the setup password currently shown on the adaptor. - Enter your home WiFi network and WiFi password, then paste the correct Site key. The SeeEnergy USB Adaptor uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Leave the supplied Cloud hostname unchanged unless SeeEnergy support asks you to change it.
- Choose Save and restart. Reconnect your phone to your normal network and check the installation’s dashboard.
Setup closes after 10 minutes. Reopen it to get a new temporary password if it expires. If the small display is blank or you cannot read the password, contact us for assisted setup; each setup session has its own password.
Check the complete connection
The approved adaptor connects through your home Wi-Fi directly to SeeEnergy on the internet. An on-premises bridge computer is not required for this connection. After connecting, check that the selected site shows recent inverter readings to confirm setup is complete.
A real zero is valid: for example, solar generation can be 0 W at night. A dash, waiting message or stale timestamp means that value is not currently available. Keep your original hardware until your replacement connection is confirmed.
Connect an approved display
These instructions cover the 9-inch SeeEnergy Display. It must be supplied or prepared for SeeEnergy before account pairing. Ask about a display if yours has not been supplied or prepared by SeeEnergy.
First, connect its Wi-Fi
- On the Energy page, tap the top-right … menu to open SeeEnergy account, then tap Wi-Fi.
- Wait for the setup network and QR code. Join the displayed SeeEnergy-Setup-XXXX network using its displayed Wi-Fi password, or scan the Wi-Fi QR.
- Open
http://192.168.4.1in your phone’s browser. Choose or type your home network, enter its password and press Save Wi-Fi. - Check the display as it connects. Changing Wi-Fi keeps its existing account pairing.
This temporary setup window also lasts 10 minutes. If it closes, reopen Wi-Fi setup on the display and use the newly shown credentials.
Then, pair it to your account
- Allow the display to connect to Wi-Fi and set its clock. In the account panel, choose Pair if a pairing code has not appeared.
- Scan Scan to pair, or log in at My displays and select your installation.
- Enter the short website pairing code shown as XXXX-XXXX and complete the pairing. Use the current code before its on-screen countdown expires.
- Check for Connected to your SeeEnergy account on the display, then confirm your site’s readings.
The display’s setup Wi-Fi password and its short website pairing code are different. Pro or Enterprise includes access to account data on approved displays; the physical screen is purchased separately.
“Screen enrollment required” needs SeeEnergy assistance. “Pro account required” means the site owner’s account needs suitable active access. Removing a display in My displays revokes its connection.
Weather & screen settings
Tap the weather location at the bottom of the display, or Edit. Enter a town or postcode, press Search, and select the correct place. You can also manage the display’s weather location on the website. Weather can be temporarily unavailable while inverter readings remain live.
To change dimming, open … → Display. Choose Never, 1, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes of inactivity, choose Clock or Energy for the dimmed view, then Save. The default timeout is 5 minutes. The first touch wakes a dimmed screen; touch again to use its controls.
The clock uses the installation’s local timezone. If it says “Setting clock” or “Local time unavailable”, keep the screen online so it can refresh its clock and site timezone. It does not use an old inverter reading as the current time.
Change grid-charging schedules
- Log in as the installation owner, select the right site and open Charging.
- Check the inverter connection and the clock or timezone shown before choosing the charging window.
- Use the available schedule controls, review the proposed change and confirm it.
- Wait for confirmation that the schedule has been saved and checked on the inverter. A queued request has not yet been confirmed.
Schedule changes are available for supported configurations where SeeEnergy has enabled them. If a control is unavailable or an update times out, read the latest settings before trying again and contact us if the result is unclear. Shared viewers cannot change inverter settings.
Tariffs, costs & export earnings
For Pro and Enterprise, select your installation and open Costs to set the tariff. Enter the rates in the units shown, including peak and off-peak import bands, their times, your export rate and any standing charge fields offered. Check the installation timezone and the saved rates.
The dashboard and approved displays use those saved tariffs to estimate import costs and export earnings. These are estimates from recorded energy data, not a supplier bill. Missing readings, incomplete coverage or a rate change can affect the result; check the dates and coverage labels beside the figures.
Updates over the internet
Prepared SeeEnergy dongles and approved displays can check for approved software updates over Wi-Fi. Keep the device powered and connected while an update is in progress. Normal updates do not require plugging a prepared display back into a computer.
Software updates are released in stages to compatible devices. Your device may receive an update at a different time from another model. The display’s account panel shows its installed app version; if it says USB preparation is required for remote updates, contact us to arrange that one-time preparation.
If an update fails repeatedly, tell us the displayed version and message. Do not repeatedly disconnect power or install unapproved software.
Common connection problems
The setup page will not open.
Confirm your phone is connected to the temporary network shown on that device. Use http, not https. A SeeEnergy USB Adaptor uses http://192.168.4.1/config; the 9-inch display uses http://192.168.4.1. Keep that local connection even if your phone says it has no internet. A VPN or mobile-data switch may send the request elsewhere; temporarily pause it or try another device. Reopen setup if its timer expired.
The setup password or pairing code is rejected.
Read the newest values on the device. Reopening setup changes its temporary Wi-Fi password. The SeeEnergy USB Adaptor’s browser login uses admin with that password. Website display pairing uses the separate short XXXX-XXXX code; the USB Adaptor setup form instead needs the installation’s Site key.
The dongle is online but there are no inverter readings.
Confirm the SeeEnergy USB Adaptor is approved for your exact inverter, it is connected as instructed, and its Site key belongs to the site you selected. A Wi-Fi or cloud connection does not prove the inverter link. Contact us with the inverter model, inverter firmware version, timestamp and on-screen status. Do not send the Site key or Wi-Fi password.
Solar shows zero, or the energy animation stops.
Zero watts can be a correct reading when no solar power is generated. Movement also pauses for missing, stale or unverified readings, or when you select reduced motion or pause. Check the timestamp and status before assuming the inverter is at fault.
My screen has an account but shows no data.
Check the selected site has fresh readings on the website first. Then check the screen’s Wi-Fi, paired site and the owner’s active Pro or Enterprise access. Weather and energy have separate availability; a weather warning does not by itself mean the inverter connection failed.
Access has expired or a feature is unavailable.
Open Account to review the owner’s current access and available renewal or activation actions. You can still log in and manage your own account. If someone shared a site with you, ask that site’s owner about its access; your personal subscription does not replace theirs.
A LITTLE HELP, WHEN YOU NEED IT
Tell us what you can see.
Include your order reference if relevant, the inverter or display model, software version, the time of the problem and the exact status message. Remove passwords, Site keys and pairing codes from screenshots.
